Songwriter night at the Blennerhassett Hotel saturday
We went to the first part of the songwriter night at the Blennerhassett (sorry to have had to leave half way through)- Heard/saw about 6 of the acts. It was pretty interesting how many people performed songs they had just recently wrote- signs of a creative bunch; and lots of music churning around.
Andy played his new song; about dragging through the day (work-a-day world); he did the "vacuum cleaner blues"- referencing Kurt Vonnegut's passing, and his love for music; he did "Down" which is quickly becoming a good West Virginia theme song; he did Tuck's Riff and "Why" or "Y" ? Some pretty nice solo acoustic versions of those songs- lots of energy up there.
Don Baker performed a set of brand new songs; he was in nice voice and good guitar work. Amanda Sams had a good solid set; got a good crowd reaction.
It was an adjustment for the Blennerhassett, hoping to use this event as the opening of the outdoor patio for the spring- but weather wouldn't cooperate. A pretty decent crowd filled a portion of the ball room- Todd Burge hosting and working the sound, and recording.
